GASHAPON aka, "Japanese Candy Toys are miniature collectible toys found throughtout Japan. They are sometimes sold in vending machines as "Capsule Toys." Others are sold in "Mystery Boxes." The term, "Candy Toys," is often used because candy is sometimes included with the toys.
The toys are often officially licensed characters or vehicles from popular movies, comics, tv series and video games. They may also be of famous actors, figures in history, sports heroes, planes etc. It is common for manufacturers to create "sets" and it is highly desirable to collect a complete set. There are usually one or two rare figures in each set.
Since the figures are either dispensed from vending machines (similar to candy or gumball machines in the US), or packaged in "mystery boxes," it is almost impossible to predict which figure you will get. This is part of the sport of collecting this type of figure. While toys in US vending machines may only cost 25 cents, gashopon toys will cost you 100-500 yen each (about $1-$5 US). If the toy is sold without the "mystery," the price is determined by how rare it is - rare or "secret figure" candy toys can fetch over $100 each.
Most candy toys are made from hard PVC plastic or vinyl. Most are pre-painted and require zero or minimal snap together assembly. The toys are small enought to fit in an egg shaped capsule or box, generally 2-3" in size. They are not recommended for households with small children or pets.
We have both "mystery" and completed sets of candy toys for purchase. Completed sets will generally consist of open boxes (the only way to constuct a complete set). Click below to see all the gashapon available.
