Moebius Frankenstein kit ROCKS! May 11, 2012
By maelje This is nothing less than a superb rendering of the Universal Studios' Frankenstein's Monster as portrayed by Boris Karloff in the 1931 film. Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE the old Aurora kit, which I had as a kid way back in the late 1960s/early 1970s, and which has been reissued recently by Revell (out of production already, I believe). But the Moebius kit is superior in almost every way, from the fit of the parts to the quality of the plastic to the fact that it actually depicts A SCENE FROM THE MOVIE -- when Frankenstein's Monster first appears, in fact, throwing open the heavy wooden door to stand in front of the stone wall. The Revell reissue/Aurora kit, by contrast, features the monster walking on a grave plot, and behind him is a headstone reading FRANKENSTEIN ... if that's from a movie, it's not from one I've seen, and I am pretty sure I've seen ALL the Universal Frankensteins.
One complaint: The peg on peg side of the monster's head did not line up with the hole on the hole side -- in fact, they weren't even close. I finally had to snip off the peg so the two parts would fit. Fortunately, there's a deep groove around one half of the head, so the peg/hole fit wasn't really necessary.
I also had a bit of trouble with the torso fitting together, but a few strips of Tamiya tape served to hold my man together until he could dry properly.
This is just an amazing version of the Frankenstein's Monster kit. Also, Moebius is releasing a "Bride of Frankenstein" kit later this month (May 2012) with Karloff's monster and the Elsa Lanchester "Bride" sitting on the settee. I have it on order!
