| | Features | The Heavenly Sword itself can transform into three distinct weapons, each with its own accompanying fighting stance used by Nariko to vary combat styles. The combat engine can scale up from sophisticated one-on-one encounters to one-on-many, where enemies employ intelligent squad-based dynamics, right up to combat against battalions pushing real-time gameplay and (AI) to unprecedented new levels. The physics-based combat allows players to sweep debris against opponents, kick tables to halt an oncoming surge of fighters, smash the enemy into the scenery, or throw bodies into other enemies using “aftertouch” controls.Heavenly Sword provides a wide range of objects & weaponry including rapid fire crossbows and massively damaging bazookas.Coupled with real-time story evolvement and amazing set-pieces, Heavenly Sword feels like a blockbuster action movie that takes combat gameplay to new heights.

Good game Jul 17, 2008 This game is good ..i love the few games out there who make so much use of sixaxis feature ..
nice gameplay ...still playing so cant comment on the length as most of the ppl talking about ...
But So far so good :)
Riddle of the Flying Hats! Jul 06, 2008 We just purchased this game on Friday, July 4th.
Pros:
Stunning graphics... really top notch!
Great voice acting
Great story line
Interesting use of the hats!
Cons:
Too many "combos" well over 120.
Six axis control is not what it's hyped up to be in this game
Character control is sub par.
Interesting use of the hats!
The graphics and colors are second to none! I have never played a video game before that matches this game in use of color! The scenery and settings are gorgeous. The voice acting is perfect! And although I'm only a couple of hours into the game, the story line so far is truly interesting!
Now the bad part...
To memorize over 120 combinations... which covers all the attacks, defense, stances, etc is more than what many gamers are willing to try to memorize... what works for what, etc!!
The six axis controler needs to be refined considerably.. not sure if this is a problem with the engineering of the controller or the game itself, since this is the first game I've played so far that makes use of motion detection.
Many times you have to use the cone type hats popular among asian agri-workers as a means of hitting multiple targets great distances apart... by bouncing them off a series of gongs! Case in point, I was in a compound high atop a mountain peak and had to throw a hat probably around half a mile or greater to hit a gong with it bouncing back another half mile or so to hit a gong in the compound where I was at... and sometimes you have to do it in a specific order! You actually spend much more time trying to solve the puzzle of hitting these gongs than you do fighting your enemies!
Character control leaves so very much to be desired during the hat throwing. Most times it is difficult to get your heroine positioned properly to throw hats. I DO like the fact that you can do minor mid-course corrections in the trajectory of the hats as it travels out to meet it's target (the camera follows behind the hat as it travels across great spaces to the target gong!) The camera view while following projectiles is spectacular! I love it!
Would I recommend this game to my friends who have the PS3? Yes. Four stars... for both overal and fun... not three.

Beatiful game but not challenging enough Jul 01, 2008 I got this game for my new PS3. Let me tell ya, it blows Xbox out of the water. There is no comparison between the 360 and the PS3 other than price of games. Not only does this game look great, but it's really fun to play. I don't know what all the fuss was over the combos and "button mashing" It's the type of game where button mashing can get you through it so many people do it.
I think that's fine for normal or easy, but since this game only has one difficulty mode. While it's really fun to kill all of these bad guys, I wanted more! I didn't die ONCE in this game or even come close to dying!
That upsets me that such a wonderfully done game (and I mean it is designed perfectly from the guided cinematic action sequences to the sixaxis ballistic controls)is so unforgivably easy. Once I learned the combos, I just ruined every bad guy. I don't mean to brag. I don't fancy myself as the Jesus of fighting games, but I am pretty good... also the bad guys would telegraph their intentions so I would have time to react to the one attacking and know what attack that he was doing to me. That made it WAAAYYYY too easy to counter and kill! There should be a mode in which the player doesn't know from which way the attack is coming or what type of attack it is (quick, power, normal).
I think that most people are complaining about the length of game play due to the lack of difficulty of the game. If only there were stronger and smarter enemies to slay...
So to conclude, I only gave this game a bad review because it was too easy. Definitely recommend this game if you have a PS3, but if you're a competent gamer, you won't have any problems with it and would be better off renting it for the weekend.
Fantastic game that's over too soon Jun 28, 2008 Wow. This game was amazing. I bought it because I liked the graphical style and wanted to see what Andy Serkis would bring to his role in the game's development. I was blown away by the dramatic storyline and fun gameplay. This is what next gen gaming should be about. This game couldn't have been done, at least not nearly as well, on the previous generation of consoles.
I have the same gripe that everyone else does, and that is that the game is short. However, I am happy that is isn't needlessly padded. I'd rather have an excellent short game than an okay long game. Adding additional "chapters" to the story might have caused the game's momentum to slow and the game to feel repetitive. It's like a book. Some stories take 200 pages to tell, while others can only be told with 1000 or more. Game length shouldn't be dictated by some arbitrary decision, but rather based on the story and game mechanics.
It saddens me to see that Ninja Theory has left this franchise beyond to work on something different. Whoever Sony gets to do the next game in this series has their work cut out for them. I hope they're up to the challenge though, because this is a franchise that I'd like to see continue.
Short but good Jun 23, 2008 Excellent graphics, very well done characters and voice acting. Great cutscenes. Great use of the six-axis. Good checkpoint/savepoint system (you'll never lose more than about 10 minutes of played time). Those are the good points about this game.
Short (I'm bad at action games and finished this in like 7 hours playtime), no real replay value, and repetitive combat are the bad points.
Makes for an excellent rental.
